Last weekend the Blackfoot Honda Team raced the second race
of the season in Mission, British Columbia. The track was really sandy and
rough and a bit on the small side. Lap times were like 1minute 45 seconds,
which is pretty short for Motocross.
Practice went well and I won my qualifier on Saturday, which
was great as well. I was still feeling about 75% from the week prior when I
crashed pretty bad and hurt my ribs. My ribs and right side were definitely
sore.
Race day:
The first moto, I got off to a bad start around 12th or so.
I didn't get out of the gate on time. I’m not really sure what happened, but I
didn't get out on time. The leaders got away from me in the beginning, making
it hard to catch up. I passed some guys
and managed a 4th place finish. I was
not happy...
Second moto, I got off to a similar start around 12th or
15th. It turned out to be the same situation. The fast guys were already out
front and pulling away. I worked hard to pass people as soon as possible and
charged to the front. I was in about 5th place when I came in a little too hot
into a corner and got kicked around by some big breaking bumps and overshot the
entire corner. It landed me off the track. I went around the outside of the
turn trying to get back onto the track and ran into a small lake that was in
between two lanes of the track. I maneuvered my way around it (which took some
time) and finally got back on the track. By this time, I had to re-pass the
guys I just worked my rear off getting around.
It was frustrating, but I worked back up to 5th place, receiving 4th
overall for the day.
I was pretty disappointed with myself and the outcome of the
day. My goal for the season has always been to keep JSR on his toes and
hopefully battle for the championship with him all year. So far, that hasn't
happened. I plan to win this next weekend in Calgary like I did last year and
pick up some points.
